海洋科研成果

In the early morning of March 7, Beijing time, the world's top academic journal Cell released the scientific research Recently, China Antarctic Zhongshan Station organized and carried out cleaning activities of domestic waste in the whole station area. During the cleanup activity, all the team members divided their work and started the cleanup work according to the established area. After the activity, all the wastes were classified, recycled and properly managed, and then transported back to China for disposal after the arrival of the research vessel.

Antarctica is the purest continent on Earth. Studies have shown that waste such as plastics and metals left behind in the Antarctic can persist for a long time in extreme environments, and can even be spread to farther regions by wind, snow and ocean currents, with potential impacts on polar organisms and global marine ecology. The Antarctic Treaty and its Protocol on Environmental Protection have made strict provisions for all activities in Antarctica, requiring countries to minimize human intervention in the process of scientific research and effectively manage all waste. Over the past 40 years, China's Antarctic expeditions have always given priority to the environment. From the first generation of expedition members to the new generation of polar workers, the concept of environmental protection has been deeply integrated into all aspects of the expedition activities. In order to practice the concept of “green scientific research”, Zhongshan Station adheres to the principle of “who generates, who recovers, who is responsible”, ensures that all wastes are properly handled, and regularly organizes and carries out cleaning activities of living wastes in the whole station area, so as not to leave any wastes in the Antarctic.
